Riot To Host Mid-Season Streamathon For COVID-19 Relief
Riot Games announced the launch of a global event to celebrate League of Legends at home and raise funds for COVID-19 relief. Mid-Season Streamathon runs from May 29 through May 31 and features over 48 hours of programming from the global LoL competitive scene.
The broadcast program is Riot Games’ way to compensate for the cancellation of the Mid-Season Invitational 2020. The organizer revealed the details of the charity event yesterday. On the official League of Legends blog site, the organizer invited fans and players to participate in the first-ever Mid-Season Streamathon:
“Players, fans, and special guests will digitally gather in support of COVID-19 relief efforts across the globe…As part of the Mid-Season Streamathon, fans will be able to donate to support a global network of non-profit organizations that are addressing COVID relief efforts.”
The event is sponsored by LoL esports giant partners like Mastercard, State Farm ®, Red Bull, and Secretlab. Starting at 5 PM PDT on May 29, Friday, the Mid-Season Streamathon will run for 2 days. The broadcast offers 48 hours of non-stop LoL programming from different regions. This is a chance for both fans of the sport and the Bitcoin LoL odds betting markets to enjoy unique and action-packed matches between top-tier teams.
From Riot Games’ teaser, the lineup includes continental battle of teams in Europe, an influencer battle featuring Yoda and Kami in Brazil, and a Mid-Season Cup battle between the powerhouse teams of League of Legends Pro League (LPL) and League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK.)
This one-time event gives LoL fans something to look forward to during the lockdown and while the pandemic is causing a global problem. As such, fans can donate funds to different non-profit organizations combating COVID-19 through the Mid-Season Streamathon.
Specifically, Riot Games will distribute all donations from the ‘Riot Games Social Impact Fund’ to ImpactAssets COVID Response Fund and the GlobalGiving Coronavirus Relief Fund. At press time, the developer has already donated a total of USD $4.5 million globally for COVID-19 relief efforts. The fund includes financial support to health professionals and other frontliners.
