Riot Teases New Skin Like Called ‘Spirit Blossom’
If one can remember, Riot Games promised to release over 120 new skins in 2020. That’s on top of the new champions set for release this year. As promised, the developer revealed the first set of teasers for a new skin line called “Spirit Blossom”.
The new skin line was unveiled at the recent online Anime Expo Lite and featured as part of the panel ‘History of Skin Thematics in LoL’. Spirit Blossom is on its way to League of Legends. Its official release may be part of the upcoming summer event announced by the dev team on the Champion Roadmap for June 2020.
“After the jungler [Sett] we’ll be releasing a new assassin. You’ll get a chance to form bonds with both champions in a big summer event coming next month,” the blog post says.
Sett is already live on the Public Beta Environment (PBE), but players can unlock his full potential in the summer event together with the new assassin named Lilia. The Spirit Blossom skin line might be the third biggest surprise of Riot Games alongside the two new champions. After all, Lilia’s teased artwork and audio clip have similar themes to the skin line.
Aside from a series of artwork, Riot gave very little details about the skin line. But fans speculated that since Riot partnered with Anime Expo Lite, an annual celebration of anime and Japanese pop culture, to announce the skin line, Spirit Blossom might feature scenic anime-like designs. One artwork from the teaser is a landscape watercolor painting set in spring.
In addition, the section of the panel ‘History of Skin Thematics in LoL’ in which the skin line was revealed, follows the theme “Adopting anime tropes, references, and styles in a non-anime video game.” We might see other champions with similar cosmetic items as Lilia.
Riot also revealed no information about the list of champions included in the Spirit Blossom skin line, but we can use their previous patch updates and announcements as reference. According to LoL’s dev team, the following champions have upcoming skins in the works:
